As a Senior Cloud Engineer you will be part of a central technical team working on the Beacon platform which offers world-class services and expertise enabling our studios to get great games to market, profitably grow the audience, engage and retain players, and maximise monetisation. Today, Beacon serves tens of millions of players everyday from all corners of the globe. The Beacon team is a core enabler of Rovio’s €300M mobile games business. Team runs at scale - tens of thousands of requests per second, capturing 10 Billion analytics events and 100 TB of data per day, with our cloud services running on over 1500 instances on AWS. The Cloud Operations team at Rovio develop, operate and support the Cloud Platform designed for web scale, automation, scalability and operational simplicity.

In this position you will get a chance to work with and master a wide variety of technologies and your work will have a real impact on the direction and quality of Rovio’s cloud journey. As you grow into your role you will be looked at company-wide as an expert in all things related to cloud infrastructure and its architecture, and your team will give you all the support you need to get there.

The Cloud Operations team is 6 professionals located in the Helsinki capital area, Finland and works in a hybrid model (min 1 day per week onsite). Our team is very senior, independent minded and fun to work in!
Currently not based in Helsinki? No problem at all, we will help you with the relocation and work permit if needed. 


You will have impact and fun at work by doing:

  • Operate, support and develop Beacon platform cloud infrastructure in a cost-effective manner
  • Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines
  • Work with development and game team engineers to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company
  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding cloud infrastructure for implementation, deployment and operation
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and ensure uptime of services

Experience and skills we are looking for:

  • Excellent knowledge and experience with AWS
  • Experience in centralized infrastructure management and automation tools (Terraform)
  • Experience with containers and their orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and running them at scale in production
  • Good programming and scripting skills (Python and Shell scripts)
  • Hands-on experience with Linux system administration
  • Great written and verbal communication skills in English

It will be useful if you also have the following skills:

  • Understanding of GitOps and CI/CD processes
  • Experience in observability tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch, Jaeger)
  • Experience in networking and security access controls (IAM, Security Groups, WAF)
  • Experience in databases (PostgreSQL and Cassandra)
  • Experience in domain name system services (Route53, NS1)
  • Knowledge and skills in cost optimization and designing cost efficient systems, cost monitoring

Interview process:

  • First meeting: You will meet the TA Partner to get acquainted and learn more about Rovio and the specifics of the role.
  • Call with a Hiring manager: We will deep dive into your skills and background and also discuss what motivates you. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about Rovio and the specifics of the role.
  • Assignment: We’d like to learn more about your hard skills through a relevant take home task, which takes a few hours.
  • Technical and team interview: We will invite you to present the assignment results to your colleagues from the Technology unit and Cloud Operations team for an in-depth conversation. Our aim also is to get a clear overview of your collaboration and communication skills, how you would fit with our working culture, your ambitions and where we can help you develop.
